Building A Small Business – The Importance of Building A Team

Entrepreneurship is a lonely profession. No matter the industry, most entrepreneurs start their businesses alone and spend a large amount of time running their business by themselves. There comes a time in business when a taking the business to the next level requires a team. Here is why team work makes the dream work.

1. You are good at what you’re good at.

There is a reason you started a business in the first place. You want to monetize a passion or talent. People will pay you to bake their cake, cook their dinner, clean their house, help them start their own business, clean their teeth, or whatever it is that you’re good at. Focusing on your talent only makes you better at what you are already good at. Any time spent doing anything else takes time away from perfecting your skills.

2. There are people who are good at doing things that you are bad at doing.

You cannot serve two masters. If your talent is not marketing. Why spend time trying to learn marketing? It wastes valuable time and you won’t do as good a job as someone who’s actual talent is marketing. Adding a marketing professional to your team allows you to focus your time on your passion.

3. There are people who love to do the tasks that you hate.

There are some tasks that come with running a business that you perform proficiently but you dislike doing them. This leads to procrastination and delays achieving the big goals. Bring someone on board who gets excited about those tasks. They will complete them with enthusiasm and allow you to focus on fulfilling your purpose.

4. People should not be alone.

There is a reason solitary confinement is a form of punishment. Solitude only exaggerates the emotional rollercoaster entrepreneurs experience. Having a good team of positive people available for moral support is just as good for your psyche as it is for business. Having social relationships in a work environment has proven to make work more enjoyable and productive.

5. Success cannot be built alone.

There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go further, go together.” Entrepreneurship is not for the weak-minded. The mental anguish entrepreneurs endure daily requires lot of discipline and tenacity. Working with a team or partner not only allows for built-in cheerleaders, it also helps you become more productive and cover more ground. In network marketing businesses, the name of the game is acquiring more points of distribution. If multiple people on your team are doing a little bit each day toward a common goal, the goal is more attainable with less stress.

It is likely that you will have to take on multiple tasks in the beginning stages of building your business. But as your business grows, build a team to take on tasks that do not align with your vital function to growing the organization, your passion, which is what prompted starting a business in the first place.
